Excusions and arrangements

The region is of course famous for it’s perfect hiking possibilities, those are by itself enough to fill a whole holiday. For example:

  1. Nice car journey, combined with easy hike, for example to Tella, the Añisclo canyon, or San Victorian
  2. The ermitas (chapels) and Castillo (castle ruin) in the ‘back yard’ of the Abadia, situated on top of the mountain behind Samitier
  3. The Entremon, a beautiful and spectacular canyon behind the village of Samitier
  4. A visit to the National Parc ‘Ordesa y Monte Perdido’ and Torla, combined with an easy or advanced hike
  5. Hike to the summit of the mountain Tozal d’Azba in the Sierra de Gaura, not really hard or difficult, but with stunning views
  6. Serious summits and hikes: Castillo Mayor, Peña Montañesa, Monte Perdido (this last one is a 2/3 days hike – more info below at the trekking arrangements)
  7. Multiple days hikes with stays in mountainhuts (for example the Ordesa-Añisclo trekking, check the video and the website below at the trekking arrangements)
  8. Nordic walking. We have 2 pairs of poles available and a certified teacher/guide.

There are also adventurous and cultural activities in our area, for example:

  1. Visit Ainsa, the medieval town (at a 15 minute drive from our casa) with it’s shops, bars and restaurants
  2. A wellness visit to the SPA in the Monasterio de Boltaña
  3. Go sheepherding with the shepherd of Samitier. An amazing 2 hour walk with 800 sheep to a beautiful old chapel, where there’s an almuerzo (traditional regional dish) waiting for you.
  4. Swimming. Close to Samitier are different options. For the ones who prefer a private, natural swim spot there’s ‘the river’. Only 5 minutes by car to reach a deeper spot in the river Susia where you can swim, and enjoy a waterfall. The rocks beside the river are perfect for sunbathing and a picknick. And we also have directions for you to a hidden private beach at the lake of El Grado, a lovely spot for a relaxed afternoon.
At 2 km from Samitier, there’s a public free swimmingpool, with a bar-restaurant and a lot of activities for kids.
  5. Visit Bodegas (wine houses). Close to Samitier is the famous wine region Somontano. Several bodegas offer a guided tour and you can try and buy their wine.
  6. Musea: the visitor centre in Ainsa, the fossil museum in La Mata, museum in Ainsa, winemuseum Somontano.
  7. Ornithology: Spotting birds of pray, in our backyard, but also in Revilla where you have a good chance to see the bearded vulture.
  8. Tuesday, marketday in Ainsa. With local products and a lot of liveliness in this small town.
  9. Rafting, tubing, canyoning, climbing, mountainbiking, etc. We can help you to make reservations and find an activity for you and your family
  10. Making or just enjoying acoustic guitarmusic in our backyard under the stars, your host is a singer/guitarist and enjoys playing for and with our guests…
